The Pain of Christmas Cards

School have sent home a sort of leaflet thingy and bear has to draw a Christmas picture and then the firm turns it into a Christmas card and the doting parents buy the Christmas cards.

Bear doesn't want to do this.  But he doesn't want to be the only child in the class not doing it.  I would rather give the money directly to school.  However I am about to dig out coloured paper and Christmas stickers and cobble together something that will eventually be sent off to doting relatives.

It isn't even Halloween yet.

I don't know who is more reluctant - bear or me.  Still, I suppose it is a life lesson.  Sometimes you just have to get on with it.

Can you not encourage him to verbalise his reasons for not wanting to do it so he's ready if he gets teased for not taking part, and also explain to him how it's not always good to follow the crowd? Seems a shame at his age if he's already getting into the mindset of "having to" do things.

Robyn - bear has Views and would probably be okay if he didn't go through with it. However last night we had a mad artistic endeavour and it is in now. Next year I may suggest we cheat and attach a Ready Made Christmas card. Bear may go for that, he isn't one for following the herd. It's sort of reassuring. Thank you for the suggestions, we talked.
